Broncos goal to see Paxton Lynch play in season finale if healthy

Barring an injury setback, the Denver Broncos likely will see another quarterback under center in next week’s season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Head coach Vance Joseph said after Denver’s 27-11 road loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday that, should he be healthy enough, Paxton Lynch will probably start in Week 17 for the Broncos.
“Our goal is to see him play, so absolutely. If he’s ready to go next week, he will probably play for us,” Joseph said when asked if Lynch could possibly start next week.
Should Lynch play against the Chiefs, it’ll mark the fifth week-to-week quarterback change the Broncos have made in 2017.
Winning the starting role over Lynch coming out of training camp, Trevor Siemian started Denver’s first seven games this season before being benched in favor of Brock Osweiler in Week 9.
Osweiler, in turn, was sat down in Week 12 in favor of Lynch, who suffered a high ankle sprain in a loss to the Oakland Raiders.
Siemian relieved the second-year gunslinger against the Raiders and started the next three games before suffering a partially dislocated non-throwing shoulder against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15.
Against the Colts, Osweiler would lead the Broncos come-from-behind effort for the win.
Denver did not announce a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game until after the team departed for the East Coast, a situation in which Osweiler said after the game was not “ideal.”
“I don’t think it’s ideal. But bottom line is I’ve been a backup in this league. I’ve been a starter in this league. I know how to prepare with no reps. I know how to prepare with all of the reps,” said Osweiler, who threw for 193 yards on 22-of-38 passing with one interception Sunday.
“Was it ideal? No. But is it an excuse? Absolutely not.”
