Lammey: Broncos decision on Tony Romo could happen ‘within the week’

After months of talk, speculation, and information, it looks like the Denver Broncos will know, more than likely, who’ll be under center at the start of next season by the end of the week.
More specifically, Fan Broncos Insider Cecil Lammey said he’d imagine the Broncos to be ready to evaluate potential free agent quarterback Tony Romo as soon as the Dallas Cowboys release him.
And that could be at any moment as the start of free agency lingers Thursday.
“I would imagine that you kick the tires, you have everything in place, you check him out medically to make a decision within the week on whether or not you want Tony Romo in Denver,” Lammey told “The Drive” on Tuesday.
Lammey said with the quarterback dominoes ready to start falling, Romo may get the DeMarcus Ware treatment and be let go by the Cowboys the morning of free agency to give the veteran more options.
“You’re going to see these quarterback dominoes fall, maybe Romo wants to get in on some of that,” Lammey said. “Now, with good teams. Not the Bears. Not the Jets. But before all of these dominoes fall and he’s left without options, maybe get Romo out there a little bit early.”
And in return, it’s likely expected that Romo would reciprocate on the “do-right” deal Dallas owner Jerry Jones coined last week, where in which the quarterback would have a gentlemen’s agreement to not sign with rivals or teams that would potentially hurt the Cowboys.
“Basically, it means this: Don’t go to Washington. And maybe it means, don’t go to Houston, as Dallas wants to own the state of Texas, as they often do. So, we’d have to see if that’s actually the case,” Lammey said.
“But what it means for the Romo side is, hey, let him go early. Let him get out in front of this thing.”
It also means the end to a monthslong saga nears.
