Broncos OL Paradis practices Wednesday, to rest Thursday

Nov 24, 2016, 7:18 AM

The Denver Broncos practiced with its full compliment of players Wednesday, including center Matt Paradis.

The third-year pro has been battling a hip issue for the last several weeks, which has kept him away from the practice field at times.

But with the bye week, Paradis is likely to see a little more practice time this week, Kubiak said.

“I put him to work today. I’m going to give him tomorrow, and he’ll go back on Friday. He’s going to be a one-day practice guy, but he’s had some time off these two weeks,” Kubiak said. “His hips have been bothering him. We’ll get Matt to game day each week, but this week he’s able to do a little bit more.”

Kubiak said late last month that the hip issue has been something Paradis has dealt with in the past, and the starting center would likely keep receiving days off each week to maintain his health.

“I know one thing, I want him out there running the show on Sunday. It is tough. When he is missing, he does all of the non-competitive stuff and all the walkthroughs that we add this time of year,” Kubiak said.

“We keep him up to date from that standpoint, but it’s more important that Matt is there for us on Sunday than it is on Thursday. We’re just trying to manage him the right way.”

However, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said Wednesday that Paradis hasn’t missed a beat on the mental side of things, working in walk-throughs and spending time studying film.

“Matt doesn’t miss any snaps, so he has that under his belt. He spends a lot of time in film,” Dennison said. “(During) walk-throughs, he is able to take those reps and work through it mentally, (and that’s an) important part. We can save him physically.”

Among those also limited in practice were defensive end Derek Wolfe and cornerback Aqib Talib, both who had missed several weeks with an elbow and back injury, respectively.

Fullback Andy Janovich participated fully in practice after having a cast protecting his healing broken hand removed.

Said Kubiak: “It means a lot. Just watching him in practice today with pads and use his hands. He couldn’t use his hands blocking, and obviously he’s not much of a threat catching the ball. That’s something Andy does well. It’s good to see him back out here using his hands. Hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the way.”
