The Denver Broncos will honor more than 125 cancer survivors at halftime of Sunday’s game with the Atlanta Falcons as the franchise launches the inaugural “Fight Like A Broncos” campaign.

The campaign works in conjunction with the NFL’s annual recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month and aims to highlight the courage of all afflicted by cancer –– men, women and children.

“We have all cancer survivors represented this weekend, not just breast cancer survivors,” said Cindy Kellogg, Broncos vice president of community development, on Thursday.

“That will be a group of about 125 celebrated cancer survivor guests who will be recognized at normal half time ceremony which typically has been that ‘Crucial Catch’ pink-out campaign. This year will be in celebration of all of the cancer-survivor types.”

Kellogg said the organization felt the need to include all cancer survivors in response to community feedback about the breast cancer-specific campaign, along with the affliction’s affect on colleagues and the larger Broncos family.

“We are expanding and becoming more all-inclusive on the cancer platform,” Kellogg said. “I don’t think any of us in our community can say that they haven’t in some way been touched by cancer, and I think this was a very important step for our organization to take to evolve and meet with the times.”

Along with the halftime ceremony to honor survivors, the Broncos will also honor Kathy Douglas, a teacher in Colorado Springs for the last 32 years and cancer survivor, as the game’s Broncos Country Hero.

Fans at the stadium Sunday will also see and hear messages on the video board during the game from players and coaches whose families have been touched by cancer.
