The Drive with DMac & Troy Renck LIVE in studio! Troy says Baker Mayfield makes sense in the long view for Denver, but Bradley Chubb should be the pick to help Denver out immediately. DMac is excited about Baker, reads off Mel Kiper Jr.’s Mock Draft 3.0, and is shocked at how high Kiper has Lamar Jackson going in the draft.

DMac & Troy decide what Broncos will be good broadcasters, including Derek Wolfe, CJ Anderson & Emmanuel Sanders, and DMac says Su’a Cravens is a huge pickup on a great deal for Denver. DMac runs through some WRs that may be traded, and says ‘we’ll see’ when it comes to DT. Troy is out if the Broncos take a WR at No. 5 overall, and DMac says the Cowboys are about to cut Dez Bryant. DMac considers Jake Butt a virtual FA addition, and Troy thinks Denver is still looking for a blocking TE & someone to catch punts. The guys hear some audio from John Elway, and Troy says Elway is a guy that wants to win now. The two agree the new NFL rule changes may be changing the game completely, and if today’s NFL game is simply being deemed ‘unsafe.’ Troy says Baker Mayfield makes sense in the long view for Denver, but Bradley Chubb should be the pick to help Denver out immediately. The boys decide who would trade up for Lamar Jackson & the highest Jackson could go in the NFL Draft. DMac paints a picture of QBs going 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the draft, and Troy laughs at the thought of Cleveland trading the No. 4 overall pick or drafting 2 QBs in the top-5. Also, DMac explains how the NFL is constantly evolving & changing. DMac says pick No. 5 is close enough to pick No. 15, and if Lamar Jackson is there with the other QBs gone, then Elway should just take him. The guys talk about the Broncos mistake in not having a backup QB, and the mistake they made by insulting Malik Jackson & letting him leave to Jacksonville. Troy says Malik was never taking a discount, and the boys take calls on the upside of Lamar Jackson. Josh Rosen draws comparisons to Jay Cutler & others for DMac, and the guys mention the history of African-American QBs starting for the Denver Broncos. DMac doesn’t see race as an issue when considering Lamar Jackson, and Troy explains how Colin Kaepernick’s situation differs & why RGIII flamed out in the NFL so quickly. Also, DMac says there’s no way the Bills, Cardinals and Dolphins all sit silently in the draft.

The boys discuss who to trade with in the draft that may want Lamar Jackson, and DMac says the pick of Paxton Lynch cost the Broncos quality depth at the QB position. Troy warns DMac about drafting a player that’s not even going to play in 2018, and isn’t sure Denver has the patience to rebuild. DMac takes calls on the thought of drafting Quenton Nelson at No. 5 overall, and says it’s an unusual year for QB depth & there’s no reason to trade back in the draft. Troy says finding Will Hernandez in the second round would be outstanding, and DMac says there’s no chance Hernandez falls. Troy says the draft is where the Broncos slam-dunk lies, and the guys preview their Rockies Opening Day show.
