The Drive – 8/5/16 – Big Al and D-Mac are LIVE with their reactions from day 9 of Champ Camp. They talk about the QB battle, review today’s practice as a veteran’s day off, talk about the players who are standing out and struggling, talk about the Rockies playing good baseball in august, and touch on the negativity surrounding the Olympics. Shaquil Barrett, Patruck Saunders, and Tyler Polumbus join the show.
The Drive with Big Al and D-Mac kicks off with some discussion on Champ Camp. They discuss the amount of veterans that were out today and note that C.J. Anderson was not among them. This leads in to the QB Leaderboard where Big Al tells you who he saw step up big today, and why he’s not happy about it.
The Big Three at 3:30 is headlined by The Olympics as the guys tell you why they will or won’t be watching today on opening day, Justin Tucker claiming that he can kick an 84-yard field goal in Colorado, Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald getting their contracts extended, Tom Brady going 25 for 25 during a scrimmage, and Shaquille O’Neal selling some thousand dollar shoes.
The hour closes with what the guys like to call a “Cynical Olympic Update” where the guys tell you the latest not-so-upbeat news out of Rio.
Football at Four gets started with the guys joined by Shaquil Barrett, who they were able to meet up with at Champ Camp, and they ask him about how camp is going for him so far, how things are different now that he’s going into year two of the Wade Phillips defense, and get his thoughts on the CU and CSU rivalry as a former Ram. Listen to our conversation with Shaq here!
Up next it’s time to get ready to rumble as the guys revisit the QB position and Big Al talks about why he has liked what he has seen out of Trevor Siemian. The conversation carries on to the Pittsburgh Steelers “Friday Night Lights” practice and why the Broncos are not doing a night-time scrimmage type practice at some point in training camp.
Patrick Saunders joins the show to share some insight on the Colorado Rockies as they get ready to take on the Miami Marlins. They get some disappointing news about Ichiro Suzuki, ask him what has cause the Rockies to get so hot as of late, ask about the lack of movement by the Rox at the trade deadline, and if Ichiro Suzuki is the best hitter in baseball history. Listen to our conversation with Patrick here!
At the top of the final hour of the show the guys are joined by Superbowl 50 champion Tyler Polumbus to talk about what he’s seen along the Broncos offensive line in training camp. They ask him his thoughts on the Broncos releasing Sam Brenner, what guys he sees having the best shot to make the team, his thoughts on Micheal Schofield moving inside to guard, and his experience with favoritism shown from management toward certain players. Listen to our conversation with Tyler here!
Next it’s the Closing Bell ringing in with with the latest trending including the Olympics sorta-kinda trending up for D-Mac, the UFC trending up for Big Al because of their ability to play clean and fair, Colorado baseball fans who want to see Ichiro Suzuki get his 3000th hit this weekend as he looks to be held out so he could reach the milestone at home, and Pelé trending down as the 75-year-old is not feeling well enough to attend to Olympic opening ceremony.
