DMac’s Broncos QB Room Fix: The Drive 5/3/18

The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post joins the show to talk about the relationship between Bud Black & Nolan Arenado, and why the Rockies are struggling at the plate right now. Patrick talks about the series against the Cubs, and what makes Ichiro so special.

DMac compares Case Keenum’s money to Matt Ryan’s, and asks Big Al if there is a ‘best available’ thought process when it comes to the backup QB position. DMac says why not Kaepernick to upgrade the Broncos’ QB room, and finds out from Al if this season is about winning or rebuilding. In the Big 3, DMac brings up Matt Ryan’s contract, and Big Al says Donovan Mitchell is off the chain. Also, DMac says Drake must now watch his language. DMac goes over the options in Denver at QB, and asks what would be so wrong with bringing Colin Kaepernick in. DMac points out the outstanding PR staff on the Broncos, and says bringing in Kaepernick would not be a problem. The guys talk about dividing the locker room, and the media circus that would follow bringing in Kaepernick. DMac asks why the Patriots brought in Tebow, and points out Denver has had its share of distractions with Aqib Talib & others. The boys talk about the socks Kaepernick chose to wear, and what Kaepernick’s plans for the National Anthem are moving forward. Also, whether or not the Broncos offense would be totally different with Kaepernick under center instead of Keenum. Callers suggest putting up a poll regarding bringing Kaepernick to Denver, and DMac asks Big Al if there is competition for the backup QB spot.

The guys talk about teams getting it right in the first round, and how injuries can affect an NFL career early on. DMac says the Broncos showed what they were going to do with Shane Ray even before the draft. Also, whether or not the Broncos were on ‘auto-draft’ in 2018. DMac starts listing great players as draft busts, pointing out the 5th-year option as a gauge for whether or not a first-rounder is a bust. Also, Shane Ray’s Kansas City connection & how much coaching factors into players becoming busts. DMac asks the callers who they would rather have between Paxton Lynch & Colin Kaepernick as Denver’s backup quarterback. Also, Al asks DMac to rank the QB rooms in the AFC West.
