After a weekend that saw five of the College Football Playoff’s top 10 teams suffer upsets, the Colorado Buffaloes are moving up in the postseason poll.
The Buffs jumped up two spots from last week to No. 10 in the CFP rankings, making it the first time since 2002 that CU’s been ranked in the top 10 of a major college football poll, according to the athletic department’s website.
At that time, CU had been ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press poll and No. 6 in the Coaches poll following a one-loss 2001 season that landed them a ninth place finish in each poll after the final tally.
Colorado sits at No. 12 in both the AP Top 25 and Coaches polls.
In its final two games of the regular season, CU will take on two CFP Top 25 teams, Washington State at No. 22 and Utah at No. 12. Should the Buffs win those two games, they’d likely be on a collision course with Washington, who dropped from No. 4 to No. 6 after a home loss to Southern California, in the Pacific 12 Championship Game.
The 2016 campaign is quite a turnaround for the Buffs and fourth-year head coach Mike MacIntyre, going from Pac-12 South basement dwellers each season since joining the conference in 2011 to one of the top teams in the country.
In just this season alone, CU has more than doubled its amount of conference wins from five from 2011 to 2015 to six in 2016.
