Changing the Game: The Drive 9/28/17

The Drive with DMac & Chad Brown LIVE in studio! Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post joins the show to talk about how sensational Charlie Blackmon has been out of the leadoff spot this season, and DMac asks Patrick if Charlie has a shot at setting the Major League record for RBI by a leadoff batter. Troy Renck of Denver 7 joins the show to say he’s not surprised about the amount of questions directed toward VJ on standing for the National Anthem, because it became the issue of choice once the story moved forward.

We hear DMac’s question to Vance Joseph about the anthem, and if the topic dominated the locker room heading into the game against the Bills. DMac says players were all over the place last week on how to react to tweets by the U.S. President, and a majority of the questions at VJ’s presser today were about the issue. After the Broncos release a statement, Chad Brown asks DMac if he’s defending Derek Wolfe, and if he has a problem with NFL players expressing their views. DMac says expect about ten carries a game for Beast Mode, and Lynch has become a non-factor similar to Jamaal Charles here in Denver. The guys discuss Jared Cook & other Raiders weapons that could bite the Broncos, and if a longer season is good for the NBA game. Chad wants LeBron as healthy as possible heading into the playoffs. The guys discuss when flags should & shouldn’t be deserved on the field, such as Von Miller’s flag late in the Bills game & if a free-throw over the goal post warrants a penalty. Devontae Booker is getting healthy, and Chad is starting to wonder if Booker is becoming completely useless in this Broncos offense, even at full-health, now that Denver has a full complement of healthy backs each with their own unique skill-set. Chad asks DMac if he would rather see DeAngelo Henderson or C.J. Anderson close out a game. Dmac tells Chad he’s asked VJ all he needed to about the Raiders this week, and is ready for game day. Chad & DMac take calls on the National Anthem, and gauge the thoughts of the Denver listeners about kneeling & how much the flag means. Renck says it has been a sensitive topic with the broncos, there are no simple answers & there is no unanimous answer. Dmac gives the Broncos PR staff credit for how they’ve handled the issue with the National Anthem, and Chad tells DMac the Packers want everyone in the stands to link arms to show unity in tonight’s game. DMac says the Broncos still haven’t figured out how to cover TEs and Von Miller’s penalty wiped out any chances Denver had at beating Buffalo. Also, Chad is concerned about the ‘No Fly Zone’ giving up so many TDs. Dmac says it’s very conceivable that the Rockies get into the playoffs if they win one more game, and Chad reminds everyone even with one more Rockies win, nothing is guaranteed yet. Broncos trap games are discussed, and DMac says the Redskins game upcoming will have significant meaning. Chad & DMac bust out the Fan Football Pick ‘Em, as the Green Bay Packers get set to take on the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football.
