On Tuesday, there was concern about the status of the Avalanche’s best player. Nathan MacKinnon, a perennial Hart Trophy candidate, was sent home from Calgary with an upper body injury that Jared Bednar deemed worthy of a “high” level of concern.

It led to speculation that the center was injured in a third-period fight with Matt Dumba on Sunday. That led to discussions about whether or not the All-Star should be engaged in fisticuffs at all, even if the Wild defenseman was deserving of a few right hooks.

Does this mean the Avalanche and MacKinnon dodged a bullet? Not necessarily. But things are certainly more positive now than they were 24 hours ago.
