Colorado Avalanche fans know superstar Nathan MacKinnon is one of the most dialed in athletes on Earth.
MacKinnon has an intensity about him that folks can appreciate. It certainly can be intimidating to opponents or even the media at times.
The Hart Trophy favorite didn’t get this good by being focused on anything but hockey and his rigorous physical training that keeps him in incredible shape.
That’s why it should be of no surprise that MacKinnon is going viral for some quotes he gave before the men’s ice hockey tournament begins at the Olympics later this week. Team Canada is the favorite to bring home the gold medal.

It’s just quintessential Nathan MacKinnon.
He wants to enjoy himself, but that’s not the main reason he’s representing Team Canada. He’s there to win the whole thing.
And as far as taking in a perhaps once in a lifetime Olympic experience, it sounds like MacKinnon has little plans to do that. A one-word answer of “no” to that question tells you all you need to know.
On one hand, you love the honesty and focus. MacKinnon didn’t fly across the world to socialize. On the other hand, hopefully he does find some time to have a little fun — being in the Olympics is a unique experience that very few people will ever have.
Regardless, Avalanche fans respect this side of Nathan MacKinnon. That’s just how he’s wired.
Team Canada’s journey for gold will begin with a group play game against Team Czechia on Thursday.
