MacKinnon, Makar help Team Canada keep dominating at Olympics

Another day, another goal for Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon at the Olympics.

MacKinnon found the back of the net late for Team Canada, helping them secure a 5-1 win over Team Switzerland and move to 2-0 on the tournament.

The Hart Trophy favorite also had two assists, completing a three point evening. MacKinnon scored in the opener for Canada, so he now has four points in two games.

Avalanche star defenseman Cale Makar also had two assists and now has three points total. The first goal of the game was actually scored by Edmonton’s Connor McDavid and MacKinnon and Makar had both assists.

Team Canada has looked like an absolute wagon through a couple of games, showing why they’re the favorites for the gold medal. Obviously, Colorado’s best players are a big reason why along with defenseman Devon Toews.

Now, the squad will get a day off before playing Team France on Sunday. They’ll be huge favorites in that game, setting up to go 3-0 in group play and get an automatic bye into the quarterfinals.

It’ll come as no surprise to Avalanche fans that MacKinnon and Makar have a combined for seven points through 120 minutes of Olympic hockey, as we get to see that in Colorado all the time.

Elsewhere on Friday, Avs forward Martin Necas scored for Team Czechia in a 6-3 win over Team France. Artturi Lehkonen and Finald got the best of Gabriel Landeskog and Sweden with a 4-1 victory.

Regardless of how it all shakes out over the next few days, the Avalanche should be well represented in the semifinals and finals, with Brock Nelson and Team USA making a statement on Thursday as well.
