Logan O’Connor says Avs have ‘a lot of gamers’ like 2022 Stanley Cup team

Colorado Avalanche forward Logan O’Connor knows a thing or two about winning a championship.

He did it in 2017 with the Denver Pioneers, helping them earn a national title and then again in 2022 with the Avs.

O’Connor is looking for the second Stanley Cup of his career and spoke about that and plenty more with “Dover and Cecil” on 104.3 The Fan on Thursday.

The guys asked O’Connor about what makes a team capable of taking the whole thing and he gave a great response.

“Yeah, I think every championship team has plenty of different qualities, but also a lot of the same ones at the same time that make it that championship caliber group. I think for us it’s the camaraderie of the team is a big thing. You want to play for the guy next to you,” Logan O’Connor said.

The Avs won the Presidents’ Trophy during the 2025-26 regular season and swept the Los Angeles Kings in Round 1 of the NHL playoffs. It’s clear they care about each other, a key quality that O’Connor referenced multiple times.

“The closer the team is the more you’re willing to go fight for the guys and put your body on the line and sacrifice things. I think it’s also playing to your identity as a person for the betterment of the line, the betterment of the team,” O’Connor said. “It’s all about the little intangibles that every guy can bring every night.”

Logan O’Connor scored a huge goal in Game 1 against the Kings that ultimately turned out to be the deciding tally in a 2-1 victory. He missed 10.5 months after undergoing hip surgery with a couple of setbacks, but now all the focus is on securing a Cup this season.

“You’ve got to have a lot of gamers on your team. You saw in ’22 we had that. I think the same goes for the group this year and we’re really looking forward to every game — it gets more and more fun the closer you get. But we’re looking forward to starting the next series,” O’Connor said

That next series will be against either the Wild or Stars. Minnesota currently has a 3-2 series lead, looking to close Dallas out later Thursday night. It’ll be a test for the Avalanche regardless of who emerges, but one they feel ready to for.
