Gabriel Landeskog is going to miss ‘weeks,’ but it’s not all bad news

There was some more clarity on Tuesday morning provided by Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar regarding the health of captain Gabriel Landeskog.

Landeskog, who suffered a scary injury against the Panthers on Sunday, is going to miss “weeks.” That’s never a good thing, but it doesn’t sound like his season — or the playoffs — are in question right now.

He said Devon Toews is week-to-week. Best-case scenario for him might be two weeks. He’s expected back before Landeskog, though.

The Avs leader went crashing into the goalpost in Florida, hard, making the result of the game an afterthought. He was officially ruled out with an “upper-body” injury, which was good news all things considered.

At one point during the play it looked like Landeskog’s knee buckled and Avs fan knows the issues he’s dealt with regarding knees since Colorado won the Stanley Cup in 2022. He played his first regular season game in more than three years to kick off the 2025 campaign.

Also of note in that tweet above is defenseman Devon Toews will also miss a couple of weeks. That’s another blow to the Avalanche, as Cale Makar and Toews form the best defensive pairing in the NHL.

We’ll see if Landeskog plays for Team Sweden in the Olympics next month, but the fact that’s even a possibility right now is a good sign.

It’s a huge bummer the Colorado captain is hurt, but it’s better than the alternative and worst-case scenario of him being done for the year.
