Gabriel Landeskog scores first goal in years, comeback reaches new high

Gabriel Landeskog scored for the first time since June 20, 2022, on Saturday, as his comeback story took another huge step during Game 4 of the Colorado Avalanche’s first-round series against the Dallas Stars.

Toward the later stages of the second period, the Colorado captain got the puck in the high and slapped it past Jake Oettinger, giving the Avs a 3-0 lead.

He played in his first NHL game in 1,032 days on Wednesday against the Stars, returning from several years on the shelf. Before Game 3, Landeskog last skated for the Avalanche on June 26, 2022, when the franchise won its third Stanley Cup by beating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. Since then, he’s undergone multiple knee surgeries, including a cartilage replacement surgery in May of 2023.

Landeskog became the first NHL player to ever return from that operation, and a remarkable story is complete. Another chapter was written with his goal, a sign that one of the best Avs ever is regaining his form.

Colorado is trying to even the series at two games apiece, and Landy’s goal may go a long way in doing that.
