The Colorado Avalanche will make their Winter Classic debut this season and are part of the NHL’s new league-wide Hometown Remix program with uniform maker Fanatics. Both mean a new sweater for the Avs, and details on each have started to leak.
Hockey design site Icethetics laid out all the newest hockey looks news in its 2026-27 season preview video, released over the weekend. The reports point to two very different looks coming for the Avs: a Winter Classic set built around a burgundy lid and a Hometown Remix jersey with no burgundy at all.
For the Winter Classic against the Utah Mammoth on Dec. 31 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Icethetics reports the Avalanche will wear a vintage white jersey, a common choice for the outdoor game. The helmets are reportedly burgundy with a matte finish, a style that has caught on across the NHL in recent years. The gloves and pants will also be burgundy.
The pants are where Avs fans will get their first look at something new. Icethetics reports they carry a logo the franchise has never used. It’s a diamond shape with mountains at the bottom, under a letter “C” with a spur and a forked end. The site described it as having “a distinctly western feel” and posted its own recreation of the mark in the video. I think it has a little black diamond ski inspiration as well.
The Mammoth are expected to wear a light blue jersey for the game. That fits with Colorado reportedly wearing white. Icethetics expects both teams’ jerseys to be revealed Nov. 18, when Utah hosts Colorado indoors. The site pointed out that recent Winter Classic jerseys have been unveiled on the third Wednesday of November, which falls on that date this year.
The game is set for New Year’s Eve rather than New Year’s Day, so the event logo, released in May, carries no year.
Colorado’s Hometown Remix jersey goes in a different direction. Icethetics reports a white sweater with two shades of blue and silver trim, jagged mountain-like shapes on the sleeves and what was described as a sublimated mountain range pattern inside the crest and numbers. The site compared that effect to the lightning bolts printed into the crest and numbers of Tampa Bay’s Stadium Series jersey last season.
The Avalanche wore white for both of their Reverse Retro jerseys, the league-wide alternate program Adidas ran before Fanatics took over as the NHL’s uniform maker.
Hometown Remix is the third league-wide special edition program in the last six years. It’s meant to celebrate each team’s fans, city and local culture. Every jersey in the collection will share a few details: a Hometown Remix logo inside the collar, an NHL shield on the collar in reversed colors and the name of the team’s hometown stitched inside the back hem.
The jerseys will likely be worn more often than the Reverse Retros were, which averaged about five games per team. Los Angeles Kings executive Darren Abbott said in a team interview that clubs have to wear their Hometown Remix jersey at least seven times. He also said some teams won’t be allowed to wear theirs on the road. The Avs haven’t released a jersey schedule.
The full collection is expected to be unveiled in November, according to the Nashville Predators. Only two designs have leaked so far, both on eBay in the spring: a bright pink jersey for Florida and a fisherman throwback for the New York Islanders.
One question is still open. Icethetics wondered whether the Quebec Nordiques throwback the Avalanche wore last season will come back, or whether it was only meant for the franchise’s 30th anniversary in Denver.
Either way, with the NHL has begun its 84-game season, Avalanche fans could see their team in as many as six different jerseys this season.
