Avalanche trade Jack Drury to Predators, do more business with MacFarland

Colorado Avalanche center Jack Drury has been traded to the Predators as the team continues to do business with old friend Chris MacFarland.

Last week it was Ross Colton joining the former Colorado GM in Nashville.

Today, it’s Jack Drury headed to the Predators in a deal that involves a number of pieces.

Jack Drury joined the Avalanche in the blockbuster Mikko Rantanen trade along with forward Martin Necas in January of 2025.

He finished that season with the Avs and then played his first full year in Colorado, posting 10 goals and 17 assists and playing all 82 regular season games. He added three goals and two assists in 13 playoff games.

Drury was set to be a restricted free agent this summer, so Avalanche GM Joe Sakic pulled the trigger on the deal with MacFarland to land some value back and not worry about matching offer sheets. A report from The Denver Gazette said Colorado approached Drury about a long-term deal, but couldn’t find financial terms both sides were comfortable with.

Fedor Svechkov has appeared in 122 NHL games with the Predators, scoring 12 goals and tallying 22 assists. Zachary L’Heureux has skated in 87 games with Nashville, posting 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists). Svechkov is listed as a center while L’Heureux is a left-winger.

Chase Bradley, who the Avs are also giving up in this trade, has only appeared in two NHL games. A 2029 third-round pick heads to Nashville as well.

The Avalanche have excellent center depth with Nathan MacKinnon, Brock Nelson, Nazem Kadri and Nicolas Roy, so it makes sense that Jack Drury was the odd man out. Especially if a lengthier contract extension wasn’t going to get inked in Colorado.

Sakic and MacFarland are clearly comfortable doing trades together. That’s two since MacFarland took the Nashville gig earlier this month — we’ll see if there’s still even more to come.
