Avalanche see 10-game winning streak end, snag a point on gritty Landeskog goal

The Colorado Avalanche were eventually going to lose again.

Unfortunately, it had to be at the hands of the Minnesota Wild on Friday afternoon.

The Avs fell 3-2 in a shootout, ending their remarkable 10-game winning streak.

Colorado shutout the Wild late into the second period, setting a record for the longest streak without allowing a goal in franchise history. In total it lasted an incredible 221:42, spanning over five games. The Avalanche had won their previous three contests via the shutout.

But Colorado earned a point, and still only has one loss in regulation all season, thanks to a gritty effort from captain Gabriel Landeskog. Down 2-1 in the third period, Landeskog appeared to get hit in the face on a scoring chance. He stuck with the play and eventually found the back of the net to tie things up 2-2.

It was Nathan MacKinnon’s second point of the afternoon as he also scored the first goal for the Avalanche. Colorado goaltender Scott Wedgewood was solid, making 35 saves before allowing two goals in the shootout. Both Wild tallies were pretty and Wedgewood had no real chance.

The Avalanche still lead the NHL standings and secured their 40th point in the defeat. They’ll be right back at it on Saturday afternoon at Ball Arena, hosting the Montreal Canadiens.

While a victory would’ve been nice in Minnesota, it was great to see Landeskog get his third goal of the year. That’s one that might propel him to go on a heater, adding another incredible weapon to an already dangerous Avs team.
