Avalanche have three of four favorites to win the Conn Smythe Trophy

The Colorado Avalanche remain the favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year.

And it makes sense given that they just swept the Los Angeles Kings in the first-round of the NHL playoffs and will have about a week off before taking on the Minnesota Wild or Dallas Stars.

According to the oddsmakers the Avalanche are +225 to bring home a championship with the Carolina Hurricanes are at +285.

Being the top pick to hoist the Cup also means that Colorado has the early favorites for the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the MVP of the NHL playoffs.

Right now the Avalanche have three of the four leaders in Nathan MacKinnon (5-1), Cale Makar (13-1) and Scott Wedgwood (16-1). Only Frederik Andersen (10-1) of the Hurricanes is ahead of Makar and Wedgewood but behind MacKinnon.

The best player in hockey MacKinnon scored two goals in Game 4 against the Kings, helping the Avs complete with sweep with a dominating 5-1 victory.

Makar found the back of the net twice in Los Angeles with two filthy goals. And Wedgewood only allowed five goals in four games versus the Kings, posting a dazzling .950 save percentage and 1.21 goals against average.

All three guys could have a compelling case to win the Conn Smythe, but of course Colorado will almost assuredly have to a bring home a championship for that to happen. Right now they have four victories and need 12 more.

Makar won it in 2022 and will look for the second of his career, while MacKinnon and Wedgewood are hunting their first.

And while individual awards are nice, you can bet all three of these guys and the entire roster would take another Stanley Cup over anything else.
