Cleveland Browns QB Shedeur Sanders had an excellent NFL (preseason) debut.

But now, the former CU Buffs star is dealing with a new injury that may have halted some of his momentum.

Right before the Browns were about to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a joint practice on Wednesday, Sanders experienced oblique discomfort during warmups. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski decided to hold Sanders out of practice.

ESPN reports he’ll get an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

In a nice moment, Eagles QB and Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts actually gave Shedeur Sanders a ride off the field in a golf cart. You never want to see anyone leave early, but that’s some respect from one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.

Playing the Carolina Panthers last Friday night, Shedeur Sanders finished 14-23 for 138 yards and two touchdowns. He took only two sacks, for just six yards, and added four rushes for 19 yards.

Despite the strong performance, the Browns still listed Sanders at No. 4 on their latest QB depth chart behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.

Stefanski had said Sanders might start against the Eagles this weekend due to other quarterback injuries, but that’s obviously up in the air depending on how bad this oblique injury is. Sanders also missed a Browns practice earlier this month with arm soreness.

Buffs fans are definitely pulling for Shedeur Sanders to make Cleveland’s 53-man roster, and perhaps even get some starts for the Browns this year.

Now, they’ll keep their fingers crossed a pending MRI doesn’t show any bad news.

(Update 1:56 p.m.) –

It’s not great news for Shedeur Sanders, but not awful either. He’s going to miss a little time.
