Seahawks first-round pick seems to endorse Drew Lock as QB

When the Broncos traded for Russell Wilson, conventional wisdom suggested that they threw Drew Lock into the deal simply to get the quarterback out of town. Most people didn’t believe that the Seahawks had a lot of interest in the fourth-year QB.

Since the transaction went down, Seattle has suggested that they have faith in the much-maligned signal caller. They’ve posted his interviews and practice reps on social media, however. Pete Carroll and John Schneider have sung his praises. All signs from the head coach and general manager have pointed toward the Seahawks embracing their new quarterback.

But many thought it was a smoke screen. The anti-Lock crowd didn’t buy into the hype, suggesting that Seattle would make a move in the draft to find their QB of the future.

Well, things haven’t shaped up that way so far. With the No. 9 overall pick, one of the selections they received from the Broncos in the Wilson trade, Seattle didn’t go with a quarterback. Instead, they invested big in supporting their current QB.

With Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis and every other quarterback still on the board, Seattle went in another direction. With the ninth pick in the first round, the Seahawks selected Charles Cross, an offensive tackle from Mississippi State.

That’s a pick that’s all about protecting the current signal caller. It’s a bit of a reach if the QB of the future isn’t on the roster.

The Seahawks could’ve gone quarterback. The top prospects were all still available. Instead, they went offensive tackle.

What does that mean? Perhaps they believe in Drew Lock.
