Shedeur Sanders was the victim of one of the most classless stunts in recent sports history. Sunday afternoon, the primary perpetrator apologized for it.

The responsible party was Jax Ulbrich, a college student who is a son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.

Ulbrich served as New York Jets interim head coach last season after the dismissal of Robert Saleh.

Jax Ulbrich and a friend shot video of themselves calling Sanders claiming they were Saints general manager Mickey Loomis just before the Saints made their second-round pick Friday night.

Of course, as is often the case in the narcissistic, look-at-me epoch of social-media, they put the video out on social media and were identified, leading to the apology issued Sunday:

The younger Ulbrich said he called Shedeur Sanders to personally apologize.

Sanders’ fall through the draft ended when the Cleveland Browns selected him in the fifth round at the No. 144 overall slot.

Also issuing a statement were the Falcons, who said that Jax Ulbrich “unintentionally came across” Sanders’ phone number via an iPad left open at Jeff Ulbrich’s home.

“Jeff Ulbrich was unaware of the data exposure or any facets of the prank and was made aware of the above only after the fact,” the statement read.

NFL teams are issued information that includes the contact numbers of all draftable prospects so they can reach them after making their selections.

According to reports, including one from ESPN, prank calls were also received by other prospects.

Those included tight end Tyler Warren, who was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts, and quarterback Kyle McCord, a sixth-round choice of the Philadelphia Eagles.
