Clough: Sanchez talks like starter, Lynch like rookie

There’s something to be said about a quarterback’s cadence.

How confident a signal caller barks out his line of scrimmage commands can separate the All-Pros and the clipboard holders.

There’s also something to be said for a quarterback’s cadence –– of sorts –– off the field as well.

The Denver Broncos quarterback situation certainly is far from being sorted, though 104.3 The Fan’s Sandy Clough said Thursday he said how Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch handled talking to the media following Wednesday’s poor practice may give us an indication to where each stands.

“All three quarterbacks spoke after practice (Wednesday). There is very little doubt that Lynch talks more like a rookie –– talks in terms of learning basic fundamental things,” Clough said. “Siemian talks like a challenger, and Sanchez –– although he hasn’t been an established starting quarterback since 2012 –– of the three continues to sound, and out here for the most part look like, the starting quarterback.”

Denver 7 Broncos Insider Troy Renck, who joined Clough Thursday morning, said Sanchez stands out among his teammates in terms of leadership, but that quality can only take a quarterback so far.

“From a leadership standpoint, guys respect him. Every guy that I’ve talk to on that offense says Mark demonstrates leadership,” Renck said. “But you know, he has to perform. Leadership without performance at that position frankly doesn’t go very far.”

Renck said judging by Sanchez’s remarks following a poor team practice Wednesday, that most “would assume he’d been named starter.”

“He hasn’t,” Renck said, “but he’s certainly assumed that role.”
