Broncos’ Wil Lutz named as AFC Special Teams Player of the Month

The Denver Broncos are racking up the awards on Thursday. After RJ Harvey was named as the Rookie of the Week for Week 8, kicker Wil Lutz was named as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for his efforts in October. The 31-year-old made all nine of his extra points and all six of his field goals, with a 57-yarder as the longest one he made in the four games.

Lutz scored seven points against the Eagles, another seven against the Jets, five against the Giants and eight in last week’s 44-24 win over the Cowboys. He came up clutch against the Giants with a 39-yard boot that found the middle of the net through the uprights.

He has now won this award three times, one in the NFC with the Saints back in September 2018 and one other time with the Broncos in November 2023. The only other player in franchise history to win the award twice is Matt Prater, who did so in September 2009 and December 2011. Other kickers who have won the award include Jason Elam (November 2001), Connor Barth (December 2014) and Brandon McManus (October 2015). Reuben Droughns (September 2004), Eddie Royal (October 2009) and Trindon Holliday (September 2013) are returners who have also won the award.

Lutz and the Broncos are back in action on the road against the Houston Texans on Sunday. That game kicks off from NRG Stadium in Houston at 11:00 a.m. MDT.
