DENVER BRONCOS

The Broncos QB battle needs to get resolved sooner rather than later

Denver needs to settle on a starting quarterback as quickly as possible, providing time for some cohesiveness on an offense that has sputtered

The Broncos have yet another quarterback battle underway. This is something the Denver fan base is all too familiar with in recent years. It’s become a bit of an offseason norm.

Will it be Teddy Bridgewater or Drew Lock as the Broncos starting QB in the 2021 season? The answer to that question remains a mystery.

What we do know, however, is that this competition cannot last very long. At least it shouldn’t.

Both Lock and Bridgewater need as many reps as they can get. The sooner the Broncos coaching staff figures out who the guy is going to be in 2021, the better off the team will be.

Denver cannot afford to have an extended competition at this position. Vic Fangio can’t afford to have this competition be dragged out. This team needs an identity and it’s hard to define one when you don’t know who your QB is?

The Broncos have their work cut out for them. Neither Lock or Bridgewater have the resume to give any fan base confidence. So the sooner the Broncos commit to a starter, the better.

Now, whoever wins the job is not going to excite the fan base. If Lock wins, we can push the narrative “has he figured it out?” and create a little mystery around the situation. If Bridgewater wins the job, we can push “the Broncos have their stable veteran” bridge for the next QB of the future.

Neither of these narratives will be enough to convince Broncos Country that this team has their guy. However, the sooner this team commits to a starter, the better chance they’ll have to finally get that winning season we have missed for so long.
