The Denver Broncos haven’t done much on the field — outside of Nik Bonitto — to earn many awards in between the lines through the first three weeks of the NFL season. Off the field, that’s a different story.

Just days after Bonitto officially launched his own foundation with an event that gave food back to the Denver community, wide receiver Trent Sherfield Sr. was selected as the NFLPA’s Community MVP for Week 4.

Sherfield and his wife spent time in Denver this week distributing baby items, such as diapers, strollers, food and formula, to families in need.

β€œI’m truly honored to be recognized as the Week 4 NFLPA Community MVP — this isn’t something I take lightly,” Sherfield said in a statement.

This honor puts Sherfield in the running to be selected as the NFLPA’s highest player honor, the Alan Page Community Award, which would result in an additional $100,000 being donated to a nonprofit organization of his choice after. The association will donate $10,000 to that organization as a result of being this week’s MVP.

On the field, Sherfield has just two catches for six yards this season, but most of his production comes from his role as a special-teamer. He also has one tackle.

Even though it’s only Week 4, Sherfield is not the first Bronco to receive the honor this season, as Garett Bolles was selected as the Community MVP in Week 1 after he and his wife opened the Childhood Apraxia Training Center in Parker. It’s clear that many players who rep the orange and blue on game days put Broncos Country and the greater Denver community first in between game days.
