Sean Payton continues to hype up Bo Nix to anyone who will listen

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is talking a lot right now.

And it’s all glowing and positive, mostly about his second-year QB Bo Nix.

Payton dropped some bombs to Charles Robinson of Yahoo!, getting Broncos Country buzzing when he said he thinks they can will the Super Bowl this year and that Nix will be a top-5 quarterback in the league over the next two seasons.

Well since that came out on Monday, three more things have hit the national media circuit via Sean Payton:

• Payton told Albert Breer of The MMQB that he thinks Nix will be a “superstar” and that former Chargers QB Philip Rivers helped confirm that Nix should be his guy. Payton took Nix with the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
• Speaking of that choice, Payton had a great quote to ESPN’s Seth Wickersham about selecting Nix. “I’ll get criticized for taking him at twelve,” Payton said. “I don’t give a f—. Three years from now is what I’m worried about.”
• And finally, Payton is “in love” with Nix, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. She relayed a story on her podcast with Chase Daniel that Payton left her a voicemail and all he said was “I love my Q.”

Coming off a 10-7 season where the Broncos made the playoffs for the first time since 2015, it’s easy to see why Sean Payton is high on Nix. He threw 29 touchdowns, the sixth most in the NFL, after not throwing any the first three weeks of the season.

But Payton has also now made four big headlines with national media outlets this week. The one to Robinson that caused initial waves and now the three above.

And there’s plenty more to takeaway from Breer, Wickersham, Russini and Daniel, those are just some of the juiciest nuggets.

With the regular season almost exactly a month away, real football can’t get here soon enough. Sean Payton and the Broncos have very high expectations, and right now, the head coach is creating a lot of those himself.
