Schefter is ‘counting on deals’ for wide receivers, mentions Broncos

The Denver Broncos might need help at wide receiver if they want to make a Super Bowl run this season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned the organization by name on Tuesday when discussing the upcoming NFL trade deadline.

One week ahead of the NFL trade deadline, some intel from around the league:

“I’m still counting and waiting on deals for wide receivers. We’ve got the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos, other teams that have made calls about wide receivers,” Schefter said.

He goes on to point out the New Orleans Saints as a possible team to trade wide receivers, including Rashid Shaheed. He has 39 catches for 431 yards and two touchdowns this season thus far.

We know how much Broncos head coach Sean Payton likes New Orleans players, so Shaheed is definitely a name to watch. Payton and Shaheed didn’t overlap with the Saints, as he joined them in 2022 when Payton was doing television work, but you cant bet Shaheed is on his radar.

Currently, Denver’s leading receiver is Courtland Sutton with 37 receptions for 536 yards and three touchdowns. After Sutton, both Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims Jr. have had productive seasons, but it’s fair to wonder if either profiles as a true No. 2 wideout in today’s NFL.

The trade deadline is one week from today, so both Payton and GM George Paton probably have a sense of urgency to get something done. The 6-2 Broncos are leading the AFC West, but the offense has been inconsistent at times.

Adding a wide receiver before the deadline makes sense, and it’s definitely worth noting that Schefter named the Broncos.
