Russell Wilson addresses return to Seattle as Broncos QB, says it’s “a mission”
Appearing on "Good Morning Football," Russell Wilson talked about his eventual return to Seattle, the Broncos in London and the gauntlet that is the AFC West

The Denver Broncos will play the Seattle Seahawks this season and Russell Wilson will be on the field.
That sentence wouldn’t have looked weird three months ago, of course Wilson will play in that game. But now that it’s for the Broncos? This one will have some juice.
Wilson addressed his looming return to Seattle on “Good Morning Football” on Wednesday morning and said he “envisions an amazing atmosphere” and is excited to play again at Lumen Field. But after heaping praise on the Seattle faithful, his focused shifted to leaving town with an important victory.
“It’ll be a great atmosphere, obviously. I’m looking forward to go back where I started everything,” Wilson said. “I think the reality, though, is that when you strap on your cleats every game, no matter where you play, who you play, you got to play with no emotion. You got play just locked in, zoned in, it doesn’t matter what the circumstances are. The ultimate goal is to go win. For me, it’s a mission, to go play and play a great football game and do what I know how to do.”
The NFL schedule will officially come out on May 12, but there’s already speculation the Broncos and Seahawks could be the Sunday Night Football game in Week 1. Can you imagine how juiced the “12th man” would be? It’s not like Wilson is exactly the most well liked man in Seattle right now, even if he’s respected.
And on the other side of the coin, Wilson has something to prove. His relationship with Pete Carroll clearly soured over the years and the Seahawks basically picked the coach over the quarterback. Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler, still has plenty left in the tank and would love nothing morning than to stick it to the Seahawks. Considering the opposing QB will likely be Drew Lock or Geno Smith, that shouldn’t be an issue. Regardless of when the two teams play, it’s a game to circle on the Broncos schedule.
Speaking of Denver’s schedule, the NFL officially announced the Broncos and Jaguars will play in London on October 30, a story broken by DenverFan.com’s Jake Shapiro earlier this week. Wilson is excited to return to a place he’s had success at.
“Obviously, I got to play in London before in Wembley Stadium. It’s an amazing tradition. I mean, just all the people there, it’s electric. It’s really, really special. It feels like an International Super Bowl in a way. So, I’m excited about it,” Wilson said.
And the folks at GMFB couldn’t let Wilson leave without asking him about the gauntlet that is the AFC West. With Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and even Derek Carr in the division, the Broncos will have to battle hard to potentially earn their first division title since 2015.
“You wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s about the work. To win the whole thing you’ve got to go through everybody. You’ve got to battle against the best of the best. These guys, I’ve got a high regard for them. These guys can really play, those quarterbacks, those teams,” Wilson said. “You don’t win it down the road, you win it today. That’s why an obsession with the process and not the end result is they key. And so we’re doing that right now.”
Wilson is great every time he steps in front of a microphone, but his interview this morning was particularly impressive. The guy alway says the right things and can inspire fans to want to run through a wall. Imagine what he does for his teammates.
