Report: Broncos lose left guard Ben Powers for multiple months

The Denver Broncos had a huge comeback win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Unfortunately, it came with a steep price.

Left guard Ben Powers hurt his biceps in the game, and rather than fly to London with the team, came home for medical testing.

9NEWS and 104.3 The Fan Broncos insider Mike Klis is reporting those tests didn’t go well. Powers is headed to injured reserve after undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn biceps in his left arm. The expectation is he’ll be out for a couple of months.

Per sources, Broncos LG Ben Powers is going on IR with biceps injury. Hope to have him back in December so roughly a two-month injury. Big blow as Powers was stalwart on team’s top-ranked offensive line. Started 40 of possible 40 games since he was signed as free agent in 2023.

As Klis notes, Powers has been steady, solid and dependable for the Broncos since joining the team as a free agent before the 2023 season.

The next man up should be Alex Palczewski, who is listed on Denver’s depth chart as the backup for Powers. Palczewski has played plenty this year as a sixth offensive lineman for the Broncos, getting roars from the crowd at Empower Field at Mile High when he checks into the game and becomes an eligible receiver.

However, with Powers down, those days are done for now. Palczewski will be tasked with keeping QB Bo Nix upright and creating holes in the running game.

The Broncos haven’t officially announced the move yet, but will likely do some roster shuffling in the next 24-48 hours.

This injury hurts, there’s no other way to slice it, but hopefully Powers can be back for the stretch run and into the playoffs, should Denver make the dance for a second straight season.
