Report: Broncos fire offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi

The Denver Broncos are making a change at offensive coordinator.

Joe Lombardi has been fired, according to multiple reports. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had the news first.

Lombardi was hired by the Broncos in February of 2023, joining Sean Payton’s staff in Denver. The two had previously worked together for multiple stints in New Orleans, with Lombardi coaching the Saints’ QBs from 2009-2013 and then again from 2016-2020.

Davis Webb, who’s currently the Broncos offensive pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, has been drawing interest around the NFL for a possible head-coaching job. By firing Lombardi, perhaps the Broncos will promote Webb to offensive coordinator to keep him in Denver.

The Broncos offense averaged 342.6 yards per game under Lombardi in 2025, good for 10th in the league. They also scored 23.6 points per game, which was 14th.

Denver’s offense was excellent against Buffalo in a divisional round OT win, scoring 33 points. But QB Bo Nix broke his ankle in overtime and Jarrett Stidham had to start the AFC Title Game versus the New England Patriots. Stidham and the offense had a great touchdown drive early, but didn’t score the rest of the way in a heartbreaking 10-7 loss.

So, Lombardi is out and we’ll see if Webb is promoted. Either way, this a major shakeup from Payton, GM George Paton and owner Greg Penner.
