Renck: Broncos need to be ‘more consistent’ on offense going forward

The Denver Broncos offense on Sunday started off the game by driving 65 yards in nine plays ending in a field goal to take the lead.

The next four drives ended with three-and-outs.

On with “Schlereth and Evans” Monday, Denver 7 Broncos Insider Troy Renck said the Broncos offense has shown flashes but failed to string together those moments of brilliance.

“They’ve got to play better. They’re not getting enough from the offense consistently. … You see flashes, but the lack of consistency will undermine them eventually on the road,” Renck said.

Denver quarterback Trevor Siemian did hit Emmanuel Sanders for a long reception Sunday, a 37-yarder to set up the Broncos on the San Diego 11-yard line late in the first half. But a sack/fumble would stall the drive without points.

Midway through the fourth quarter Sunday, Siemian again went to the deep ball, this time to Demaryius Thomas to set up the offense at the Chargers’ 4-yard line. But again, they failed to put the ball in the end zone and settled for three points.

“I’m proud of the fact that we mustered up a couple of big drives in the second half, but we turned the ball over in the red zone. We were 2-for-6 and still won the game. That usually doesn’t happen,” Kubiak said.

And because of that inconsistency, Denver leaned heavily on its defense to get the divisional win, something Renck said won’t be a viable plan moving forward in a strong AFC West.

“You can’t count on defensive scores. That’s the part that is an aberration when you’re trying to win games. They’ve got to be more consistent,” Renck said.
