Randy Gregory’s extremely disappointing season comes to an early end

Randy Gregory signed a five-year, $70 million contract with the Broncos this offseason.

Add that to the list of moves made by Denver GM George Paton that haven’t worked out. At least not yet.

The Broncos placed Gregory on IR on Saturday afternoon, ending his extremely disappointing year. Gregory played in just six games, registering two sacks and 12 tackles. He did force two fumbles in Denver’s first two games of the season.

But an injury to his knee against the Raiders on Oct. 2 forced Gregory to get a procedure. He missed about 2.5 months, before finally returning against the Cardinals on Dec. 18.

He made headlines for a postgame fight against the Rams on Christmas Day, that led to a one-game suspension. That suspension was voided by the NFL on appeal, but Gregory still owes more than $60,000 in fines from the game.

Gregory marks Denver’s league-leading 21st player to be put on IR this year. It’s not the sole reason they’re 4-11, but it’s certainly a big factor.

Here’s hoping for better health and more availability from Gregory and the entire Broncos roster in 2023.
