There’s been a lot of good energy surrounding the Denver Broncos throughout training camp and the preseason as they gear up for what is slated to be the biggest season for the franchise since Peyton Manning lifted the Lombardi Trophy after Super Bowl 50.

However, news broke earlier in the week that is quite the opposite of good vibes surrounding the organization. Former first-round pick and quarterback Jay Cutler pleaded guilty on Tuesday in relation to a drunk driving arrest from October 2024. The judge in Franklin, Tennessee, accepted Cutler’s plea, which will dish out a handful of punishments to the 42-year-old.

Cutler will have to serve four days in the Williamson County Jail, with a report date set for Sept. 29. He will also have forfeit his Tennessee driver’s license, pay a $350 fine, attend a DUI safety class and spend a full year on unsupervised probation.

Cutler spent three years with the Broncos after the organization selected him with the No. 11 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played five games in his rookie season before starting all 16 games in both the 2007 and 2008 campaigns. In the orange and blue, he threw for 9,024 yards and 54 touchdowns while completing 62.5% of his passes. He also found the end zone three times on the ground.

After the ’08 season, the Broncos traded Cutler to Chicago in exchange for Kyle Orton and three draft picks (two first-rounders and a third). He spent eight seasons with the Bears and one final year with the Dolphins in 2017. His best season in the pros was 2008 with Denver, the only year he made a Pro Bowl.
