Pat Surtain II says ‘main goal’ is Super Bowl, but Broncos need to start fast

The Denver Broncos had veterans report to training camp on Tuesday and put star cornerback Pat Surtain II on the podium.

It didn’t take long for him to start getting questions about a “Super Bowl or bust” mentality for the Broncos this season.

Surtain was once again elite in 2025, helping Denver go 14-3 in the regular season and earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC. They made it all the way to the AFC Title Game, but lost to the Patriots without starting QB Bo Nix, who broke his ankle the week before.

For Pat Surtain II, he’s focused on the big picture this year, but also subtly reminded the media it’s only July 28 and the journey is just beginning.

“Our expectations are pretty high. But, you know, we’re just going to take it week by week. Obviously, that’s the main goal, but it starts right here, training camp,” Pat Surtain II said.

And training camp will be long. The Broncos have 14 open practices to the fans with three preseason games mixed in as well. The first preseason game is in Atlanta on Aug. 14, the opener isn’t for another month on Sept. 14 against the Chiefs.

That’s just the start of a brutal six-game stretch to begin the year. Denver will face Kansas City, followed by the Jaguars, Rams, 49ers, Chargers and Seahawks. Those are all contenders on paper.

“It starts early on in the season, I think our main focus is to start off fast. Start off hot early. So that way we could prepare ourselves to get to that stage,” Surtain said.

And that stage would indeed be the Super Bowl. Nix has made it clear that’s his goal this season. And while Pat Surtain II is on the same page, he knows it’s a long and treacherous road ahead.
