Pat Surtain II feeling alright, wasn’t at his best vs Colts

The 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year may want his Week 2 performance for the Denver Broncos back. He wasn’t at his best, and he suffered an ankle injury against the Indianapolis Colts to boot.

The seventh corner in league history to win the DPOY, Surtain left the game in the second quarter after the play below. He got tangled a bit with Colts rookie tight end Tyler Warren while trying to cover Michael Pittman, then grabbed his left ankle. It’s unclear if PS2 actually contacted Warren or if he suffered the injury by himself.

He said on Wednesday that his ankle is feeling good and that’s he’s up to speed. He was not on the initial injury report.

“Just making sure I’m ready to play on Sunday,” he said of playing the Chargers.

Surtain had a perfect game in Week 1 against the Titans to start his 2025 season. He and the Broncos struggled to stop the red hot Colts, during Week 2’s loss.

”I think we shot ourselves in the foot a couple of times and it’s hard to bounce back and maintain excellence,” PS2 said. “We had times we could’ve gotten stops and we didn’t. And we still could’ve won the game so it comes down to execution.”

The 25-year-old Surtain is in his fifth year in the NFL with the Broncos after improving in each of his first four seasons in the Mile High City. Last year’s awesome defense was led by Surtain, and most expect Denver’s defense to have an even better year in 2025. PS2 allowed just 37 receptions in 2024 and recorded four interceptions, holding opposing quarterbacks to a 61.1 passer rating.

PS2 says he holds himself to a high standard and admitted it wasn’t one of his best game’s. He’ll look to bounce back during Week 3’s game in Los Angeles.
