Broncos get insane overtime win over the Bills

DENVER — The Denver Broncos completed yet another comeback, this time after blowing a big lead in the second half to the Buffalo Bills. A last-minute Broncos touchdown in regulation led to a an overtime back-and-forth where Wil Lutz connected on a short field goal for a Mile High 33-30 victory.

The Broncos were up 13 in the second half, until they weren’t. Their luck with turnovers wore out, and the Bills’ offense finally got going. And they kept going, to take a four-point lead with 4:11 left. The Broncos got the ball for a final drive, working slowly. That’s when Bo Nix connected with Courtland Sutton for 25 yards on a third down to keep the drive alive. One play after Nix kept it alive with his feet, he kept the Broncos’ season alive with his arm by finding Marvin Mims for a 26-yard score with 55 seconds left. The drive went eight plays for 73 yards.

The game was far from over. Denver’s defense, which forced four turnovers on the day, had 50 seconds to kill to keep Josh Allen from trying or winning the game. The Bills got the ball on their own 27-yard line, Allen moved the ball down the field in a hurry, and a few near misses at the end zone. It left Matt Prater with a 50-yard field goal that he connected on, sending the game to overtime.

The Broncos got the ball first, but went three-and-out. A good punt put the Bills on their own seven-yard line. Allen moved the ball, but on a third and long, he took a deep shot for Brandin Cooks, which would’ve gotten Buffalo into field goal range. As he was coming down with the ball, Ja’Quan McMillian snatched it to give the Broncos hope.

With the bal,l Nix and the offense took over on their own 20. Denver got a quick first down on a short pass to RJ Harvey, where the rookie broke free to midfield. The Broncos needed just a few more yards for a chance at a Lutz field goal.

While Nix dropped back two plays later, looking deep — he was hit late, causing a rare flag in the game to be called. Nix was roughed, and his target, Courtland Sutton, was interfered with. A call against Buffalo’s Taron Johnson, giving the Broncos the ball at Buffalo’s 36. Nix took another deep shot, and Buffalo was called for yet another interference, this time on Tre’Davious White — moving the ball all the way down to the Bills’ 8.

Lutz connected from 24 yards to win it.

The Broncos will host the winner of the Patriots and Texans next Sunday in the AFC Championship Game, with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
