Only one thing matters: The Broncos escaped London with a W

Well, that was a snoozer. The Broncos and Jets did all they could to make sure football doesn’t catch on in the United Kingdom, playing to a 13-11 final in London on Sunday.

It was as bad as that score would indicate. Denver squeaked out the win, getting a 27-yard Wil Lutz field goal in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good, avoiding disaster.

And that’s all that matters. Seriously.

Everyone in Broncos Country will be wringing their hands on Monday, fretting about the poor performance. They’ll be lamenting the dismal offense and bellyaching about barely beating a winless team. Sports talk radio will sound like the Monday after a loss, not a win.

It’s not that the concerns aren’t valid. Putting up just three points in the second half against a bad team is alarming. But it’s beside the point.

The name of the game is winning. And the Broncos found a way to get a W.

Was it pretty? Hardly. Was it satisfying? Not really.

But at the end of the day, Denver is 4-2, tied atop the AFC West. They avoided the trap game, concluding a nine-day road trip with their third-straight win.

Now, they’re poised to make a run. Back-to-back home games against the Giants and Cowboys are on deck, providing the Broncos a chance to boast their mark of the Sean Payton era.

They’ll have to play better to beat Jaxson Dart and company. They’ll likely need more than 13 points to best Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense.

So they have work to do in order to correct their mistakes. But it’s a heckuva lot better to search for answers at 4-2 than 3-3. Looking for ways to improve while sitting in first place is a nice position to be in.

That’s all that matters. There’s no such thing as style points in the NFL.

The reality is that no one will remember this ultra-forgettable game in a week. It’ll just be a check mark in the win column.

Need proof? Nobody cared at the end of last season that Denver edged the Jets in Week 4, sneaking by for an ugly 10-9 victory. It was just one of the wins that got them to 10-7 and helped them earn a wild card berth.

This one will be the same. The 2025 highlight video will whiz past the two Lutz kicks and Nate Adkins touchdown. It might focus on the defense giving up just 82 total yards and recording nine sacks, however.

It wasn’t a thing a beauty, but it didn’t need to be. The Broncos escaped London with a win. And that’s the only thing that matters.
