Nik Bonitto has the perfect approach for a rookie looking to contribute

Second-round pick Nik Bonitto wrapped up his first true practice as a pro as the Denver Broncos opened up Training camp on Wednesday.

Bonitto is an outside linebacker who appeared in 39 career games over four seasons at the University of Oklahoma from 2018-21. He was named the Big-12 Defensive Player of the Year by Pro Football Focus.

The Florida native joined Brandon Stokley and Zach Bye in an exclusive interview on 104.3 The Fan after his day on the field.

“It’s just exciting seeing the fans out here for the first time,” Bonitto said. “It’s been five weeks since we’ve been around each other, so just being around with my team and getting accustomed to the playbook again, just being around. Everybody’s been really good.”

Bonitto has been getting a lot of hype as a possible impact rookie. Many pundits have picked Bonitto as a darkhorse Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate.

“I want to be a guy that can come in and can contribute whatever the team needs, whether it’s on special teams, whether it’s on defense, whether it’s coming in on third downs. I mean, wherever I can help the team to win a championship,” he said.

Bonitto previewed his game for those who didn’t see him, Norman.

“I play fast in all facets of the game,” he explained. “I’m going to be relentless getting after the quarterback; I’m going to be disruptive. Those are three things I pride myself on that you can definitely count on me doing every time I step on the field.”

Bonitto said he’s still getting butterflies when he puts on the Broncos logo. Seeing the fans was a highlight for him on Wednesday, but a steadying force is the veterans around Bonitto at his position.

“It really is a blessing just coming in and year one and having guys, who have been around the league,” he said. “Just being in this position to learn from all those guys has been good for sure.”
