NFL flexes Broncos vs. Chiefs tilt to Sunday Night Football on Nov. 27

When the Denver Broncos return from a Week 11 bye to play the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 27, they’ll do so not under the sunlight of a late fall afternoon at Sports Authority Field but the lights of prime time.

According to a release from the NFL Monday morning, the AFC West tilt will be flexed to the Sunday Night Football game on NBC instead of it’s scheduled slot at 2:25 p.m. on CBS.

The nationally-televised game will be played at 6:30 p.m. local Denver time and will replace the originally scheduled lineup of the New England Patriots and New York Jets.

It’ll be the first of two games with the Chiefs from Thanksgiving to Christmas that could have playoff implications. The Broncos have played AFC West foes San Diego twice, splitting the season series 1-1, and Oakland once. They play the Raiders in Denver on New Years Day to finish the regular season.

Each season, the league can begin flexing games from afternoon to prime to starting in Week 5, and only two games can be moved until between then and Week 10.

The “flexible scheduling” began in 2006 and was extended to Week 17 in 2014, according to the NFL website.
