Marvin Mims Jr. returns to practice as Broncos get back to work

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. returned to practice on Monday as the Denver Broncos got in a “bonus day” of practice, six days before their regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Mims left practice early Aug. 27 due to a groin injury, but at the time it was not considered to be serious. One day later, Broncos coach Sean Payton said that the team was “pretty fortunate, all things considering” regarding the injury.

The third-year wide receiver is expected to have a significant role in the offense. After the team began getting him the ball via handoffs from Bo Nix in Week 10 last year, he became a frequent target, and ranked second among Denver wide receivers in targets and receptions from that point forward, trailing only Courtland Sutton in both categories.

Mims’ yardage tally from Week 10 through the end of the regular season put him on a 1,000-yard pace over a full season.

BEYOND MIMS: BARRON GETS A NEW NUMBER

First-round rookie cornerback Jahdae Barron looked a bit different Tuesday, as he donned jersey number 23, which was previously worn by running back Audric Estimé, who was waived by the team last week. Barron donned jersey number 12 in the preseason.

Practice-squad cornerback Reese Taylor was the only player not seen on the field when practice began.

The Broncos have their standard Tuesday off-day before returning to work Wednesday.
