Denver Broncos punt returner Marvin Mims Jr. is the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

That news was announced on Wednesday morning after the electric 48-yard punt return touchdown by Mims against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mims looked dead in the water, but broke a couple tackles and took the ball down the left sideline for the score. It made it 14-7 Broncos in a relatively easy win, their 10th in a row to help improve to 11-2 on the season.

For Marvin Mims, it was the first punt return touchdown of his career, although he’s flipped the field on several occasions in a big way.

In fact, this is the third time in his young career that Mims has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. He trails only kickers Matt Prater and Jason Elam in franchise history, who both took home the award five times.

And speaking of kickers, Wil Lutz won this honor for the Broncos in Week 10 and now Mims joins him in Week 14.

Head coach Sean Payton has made it clear he wants to get Mims more involved on offense  — and why not? His blazing speed is on display every time he touches the football.

This is a cool honor for Marvin Mims, with surely more to come over the next decade or so he plays in the NFL.
