Malcolm Roach improves to full practice, Jonah Elliss now a name to watch

There's no indication from the Broncos if Malcolm Roach will play Sunday, but he's trending in the right direction based on Thursday's practice report

Watch: There's Plenty to Watch Friday in the Broncos' Preseason Opener -- Even Without Nix | 8 mins

Denver Broncos defensive lineman Malcolm Roach continues to make big strides in his recovery from a calf strain.

On Wednesday, his 21-day window to return from short-term injured reserve was opened.

And on Thursday, with the Broncos in London preparing for the New York Jets, Roach practiced fully. There’s no indication from the team yet if he’ll play this weekend, but Roach is clearly trending in the right direction.

Last season was Roach’s first with the Broncos after spending the first four of his career with the New Orleans Saints. He was productive, posting 43 tackles (five for loss), 2.5 sacks and eight QB hits.

The Denver defense, particularly the defensive line is already strong, but adding Malcolm Roach back into the mix would be a big addition.

Everyone else is trending towards taking the field against the Jets, except edge-rusher Jonah Elliss. He missed his second straight practice with a ribs / shoulder injury. He’ll need to be out there on Friday in at least a limited fashion to have any shot of suiting up.

And left guard Ben Powers, while still on the injury report, has no chance of playing anytime soon. He’s eventually going to be put on IR, out until at least December after undergoing biceps surgery. The Broncos could use Powers’ 53-man roster spot on Malcolm Roach if he continues to move in a positive direction.

Denver and New York will kick off at 7:30 a.m. MT on Sunday from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
