Lil’Jordan Humphrey leaves for Giants after two Broncos seasons

Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who played more snaps for the Denver Broncos last season than any wide receiver other than Courtland Sutton, is moving on to a new destination.

Humphrey signed with the New York Giants on Friday, ending a two-season run with the Broncos that saw him catch 44 passes and endure four occasions when he was waived or released by the team.

Those moves were procedural, often involving shifts to the practice squad, but they were part of the roster chess game the Broncos played with Humphrey, who always passed through the waivers when exposed, allowing him to return to the practice squad, from which Denver would elevate him to the game-day active roster, as teams can elevate players from the practice squad to game-day work three times each season.

Thus, despite having five separate practice-squad stints over two seasons with the Broncos, Humphrey never missed a game with the Broncos, playing all 34 regular-season contests and last January’s playoff game.

Lil’Jordan Humphrey was one of the first players Sean Payton added when he cobbled together his initial free-agent class in Denver.
