Legends Week 2021: Kicking things off with Broncos great Terrell Davis

The former Super Bowl MVP and league MVP joins Schlereth and Evans on Tuesday morning to kick off a week of legendary proportions

All this week, 104.3 The Fan will be visiting with people who made a huge impact on the Colorado sports scene. As part of Legends Week 2021, the station’s hosts will chat with players, coaches and broadcasters who were a major parts of the state’s athletic history.

It kicks off on Tuesday with one of the greatest players in Broncos history – Terrell Davis.

So many aspects of his story are legendary. Davis is a rags-to-riches story of epic proportions.

• A sixth-round pick in the 1995 NFL Draft, Davis was a long shot to make the roster; but after making a jarring tackle on kickoff coverage during a preseason game in Tokyo, he caught the attention of the coaching staff and shot up the depth chart.

• Davis earned MVP honors in Super Bowl XXXII, despite missing a portion of the game due to a migraine headache. He returned after halftime to finish with 157 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

• The following season, Davis earned league MVP honors. He became just the fourth running back in NFL history (at the time) to crack the 2,000-yard barrier, finishing with 2,008 on the season. He also chalked up a league-leading 21 touchdowns on the ground.

• In eight career postseason games, TD rushed for 1,104 yards and 12 touchdowns. Extrapolated across an entire season, that’s 2,208 yards and 24 touchdowns against the best teams in the league.

• His career was cut short by a knee injury suffered in Week 4 of the 1999 season, but Davis was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (2004), the Broncos Ring of Fame (2007) and the Pro Football Hall of Fame (2017).
