Lammey: Predicting all 22 Denver Broncos roster cuts

With the fourth preseason game in the books, it’s time for every team in the NFL to cut down their rosters from 75 to 53. The Denver Broncos are going to assess where their team is and make cuts accordingly.

It’s a tough time of year, and on a deep and talented team like Denver there will be many tough decisions made.

Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak was frank when talking about the process earlier in the week.

“It’s not tough, it’s miserable. There you go, it’s miserable. These guys stay with you all offseason, they’re with you all training camp and then you have to say, ‘No,’” Kubiak said.

“It’s part of the business, but it’s not fun. I can tell you that,” he added.

The Broncos roster currently sits at 75 players. Here is my prediction for the 22 players who will be cut before Saturday’s deadline:

1. Juwan Thompson: I hope I’m wrong because I love his versatility and team-first mentality, but all signs indicate that Thompson is unlikely to make the final roster this year.

2. Dillon Day: He’ll be a pro wrestler someday, and his start on a new career path may begin sooner rather than later.

3. B.J. Lowery: He was burned several times through camp and the preseason.

4. John Tidwell: Perhaps the local product did enough to find a spot on the practice squad.

5. Lars Koht: Even with injuries on the defensive line, Koht did not do enough to make the roster.

6. Eddie Yarbrough: I would like him to gain or lose 15 pounds with a year of development on the practice squad. Yarbrough has NFL-level technique, but he’s too small for defensive end and too big for outside linebacker. Pick a position, gain or lose the weight, and continue to grow as a professional.

7. Robert Myers Jr.: He’ll best be remembered for his massive thighs and nickname “Quadzilla.”

8. Aaron Neary: The Broncos need help inside on the line, but Neary didn’t do enough to impress.

9. Dwayne Norman: The inside linebacker from Duke didn’t put enough on tape.

10. Vontarrius Dora: A 2-sack game against the Chicago Bears in the preseason opener wasn’t enough to make the 53-man roster. However, we should see him kept around on the practice squad.

11. Sadat Sulleyman: He’s made plays for the Broncos in the preseason, but it seems like he’s destined for the practice squad in 2016. The Broncos may be lucky if he’s able to sneak through.

12. Kyle Kragen: He made few plays of note at outside linebacker ¬–– where the Broncos are stacked with talent.

13. Mark Sanchez: Whether he’s cut or traded away, I don’t think Sanchez stays with the Broncos.

14. Ryan Murphy: He was brought back to the team after an incident before the Super Bowl to be a camp body. Camp’s over, so Murphy is done.

15. Shiloh Keo: The team can put him on the suspended list as he’s going to miss the first two games of the year due to a suspension.

16. Lars Hanson: There are turnstiles at DIA that would stop pass rushers more effectively.

17. Justin Murray: The Broncos are set at the offensive tackle position without Murray. He might have done enough to get a practice squad spot.

18. Kalif Raymond: He was a breakout player the first day or two of training camp, but the diminutive wide receiver did not do enough as a returner or receiver to warrant a spot on the roster. Perhaps the team keeps him around on the practice squad.

19. Mose Frazier: I’ve felt like Frazier was destined for the practice squad from Day One. Why? He’s Paxton Lynch’s favorite target from their days together in college at Memphis –– that and the Broncos wide receiver corps is incredibly deep and talented.

20. Henry Krieger-Coble: As Kubiak has mentioned more than once, Krieger-Coble needs to add weight to his frame. A year on the practice squad should help him do just that.

21. Kapri Bibbs: One of the toughest decisions to make. Bibbs could make the final roster, but the team may decide to keep only three running backs (C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker, Ronnie Hillman) and let Bibbs go again. He has one year of practice squad eligibility left, but another team may scoop him up if Bibbs becomes available.

22. Tauren Nixon: Another tough cut here. Nixon has legit 4.2 speed, but he’s rigid in his transition and can be burned in coverage. Perhaps going to the practice squad would further help his development.
