Joel Klatt doesn’t get why the national media refuses to acknowledge Bo Nix

The moment where production is so overwhelming, the wins are consistent and the impact is so undeniable that even the most stubborn holdouts in the national media have no choice but to acknowledge what is sitting right in front of them. Bo Nix has been waiting for that moment for two years.

And according to Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt, the evidence has been there all along.

On a recent edition of “Stokley and Evans, with Mark Schlereth” on 104.3 The Fan, Klatt joined the show to discuss the disconnect between what Nix has accomplished and how the national conversation continues to frame him. Mark Schlereth set the table with the frustration that has been simmering across Broncos Country for two full seasons.

“There’s so many things out there in regards to Bo Nix, where he just doesn’t get the national kind of attention, or the national credit that I think he deserves. Being in the last two years, you look at that quarterback class that came out with Drake Maye, and with Jayden Daniels, and Caleb Williams, and Bo Nix clearly, statistically anyhow, has been the best of all of them,” Schlereth said.

That’s not a matter of interpretation. It’s a matter of record. Nix leads his entire draft class in total touchdowns, passing yards and wins. He took the Broncos to back-to-back playoff appearances and an AFC Championship Game in his second season, a game he almost certainly would have won had he not broken his ankle late in the Divisional Round against the Buffalo Bills.

The stats are right there. And yet the recognition continues to lag behind.

Schlereth put the question directly to Klatt.

“Where are you with Bo Nix, and why do you think he just doesn’t get the credit that he probably deserves?” Schlereth asked.

Klatt’s response was refreshingly candid.

“Yeah I don’t know. I think that that’s strange,” Klatt said.

He then offered a theory rooted in the pre-draft evaluation process that has followed Nix like a shadow since the moment he was selected.

“I don’t wanna say he was a surprise first-round pick. But I think people never put him in that category with Jayden or Caleb specifically, or even Drake,” Klatt said.

That’s the original sin of Nix’s national perception. He wasn’t one of the pre-draft darlings. He wasn’t anointed before he ever took an NFL snap. And because the media machine had already assigned its hierarchy before the 2024 draft, adjusting that hierarchy based on actual NFL production has proven to be an exercise most national voices simply aren’t willing to undertake.

Klatt then zeroed in on the moment that should have settled every debate permanently, and his frustration with the industry’s refusal to process what that moment revealed was unmistakable.

“The sports media space is filled with people. And I don’t understand how that apparatus doesn’t understand what was clearly presented to us once he got hurt, which was his importance to the Denver Broncos,” Klatt said.

That argument has no counter. When Nix went down against the Bills, the Broncos went from the AFC’s top seed to an AFC title game loss with Jarrett Stidham under center. The entire trajectory of the franchise’s season changed in a single play. If that doesn’t prove a quarterback’s value, nothing does.

Klatt then took the logic to its ultimate conclusion.

“If Bo Nix is on the field against the Patriots, the Patriots are not in that Super Bowl. And we probably have a much more entertaining Super Bowl than we got between the Seahawks and the Pats,” Klatt said.

That’s a bold statement from a national analyst, and one that aligns with what most objective observers believe. A healthy Nix in the AFC Championship Game changes the outcome. A healthy Nix in the Super Bowl changes the narrative of the entire 2025 postseason.

The best team in the AFC lost its most important player at the worst possible moment. And the ripple effects were felt all the way through to a Super Bowl that Klatt clearly believes Denver would have made, and possibly won.

“So his importance to what was the best team in the AFC in my estimation, can’t be overstated. And yet, some people don’t wanna acknowledge that, or it gets lost in translation,” Klatt said.

That final line captures the entire two-year saga of Bo Nix’s national perception. His importance to Denver is undeniable. The production is statistically ahead of the rest of his class . The wins keep coming. And still, the translation from local recognition to national acknowledgment keeps getting lost somewhere between Denver and the media centers on the coasts.

This could be the year that changes. Nix enters year three, with Jaylen Waddle added at wide receiver, a new play caller in Davis Webb and a roster built to compete for a Super Bowl. If he delivers the kind of season the trajectory suggests he will, the national media won’t be able to look away anymore.

Joel Klatt already sees it. Broncos Country has seen it for two years. The rest of the country just needs to start paying attention.
