Jarrett Stidham shouts out Broncos Country after preseason game

Jarrett Stidham has only had tastes here and there of Empower Field at Mile High, but the Denver Broncos quarterback still has a lot of love for the Orange and Blue faithful.

The 29-year-old quarterback led the Broncos to a 27-7 preseason win over the Arizona Cardinals in the team’s lone home tune-up game. In a contest where most of Denver’s first-teamers sat, Stidham connected on 16 of his 23 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns without being sacked.

“It’s great to be back in front of the home crowd, the best fans in football,” Stidham said of the 62,948 fans that showed up. “Luckily, we put up points and moved the football. Everybody who played tonight played complementarily and we had a little bit of fun.

The fun began with a rushing touchdown via an RJ Harvey rushing touchdown after a long passing play by Stidham to Evan Engram.

Stidham’s first touchdown at the end of the first quarter to take the lead was to the youngster Troy Franklin.

And his second score came just before halftime, finding Fanklin again. The wide recciver caught two other passes and totaled 67 yards.

Stidham has made one real start for the Broncos at home, getting the call from Sean Payton in the dying days of the 2023 season when the team was ready to move on from Russell Wilson. Stidham competed with Bo Nix for the starter’s job last year, but the rookie was given the nod right away and thrived — pushing Stidham back to where he’s spent his entire NFL career: holding a clipboard.

Nonetheless, the showing from Stidham on Saturday is a nice reminder that the Broncos have an option behind Nix should they need it. Third-stringer Sam Ehlinger also had some nice moments later on.
