Davis Webb says he’s a ‘passionate guy’ about celebration with Sean Payton

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton gave his offensive coordinator Davis Webb some love on the sideline on Sunday once it was clear the Broncos were going to win.

The CBS crew captured Payton giving Webb a little tap on the chest, basically saying “job well done” after Denver rallied to beat Jacksonville with two fourth quarter touchdowns.

Webb’s debut in Kansas City calling offensive plays was ugly and things didn’t look much better for 2.5 quarters against the Jags. But Nate Adkins and Jonah Coleman found the end zone, helping the Broncos win 20-13 and move to 1-1 on the season.

Denver made Webb available to the media on Thursday and he was asked about that moment between him and Payton.

“I’m a passionate guy. I am pretty calm I would say on the headset and throughout the game. In that moment I definitely got a little loose with that,” Davis Webb said.

No one in Broncos Country had a problem with Payton or Webb showing emotion after a big victory. They probably felt like the fans did, a mixture of relief and satisfaction that the Broncos offense woke up just in time for them not to fall in an 0-2 hole.

“It was a way to kind of let it out, too. So I think it’s better that way sometimes and just being authentically yourself then try to be something fake,” Webb said.

Now, the task for Davis Webb and his offense is to start faster on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams. This is a potential Super Bowl preview, but if Denver spots L.A. a lead early, another comeback might not happen.

Hopefully we get more celebration shots from the head coach and OC late in the fourth quarter, which would likely mean the Broncos pulled the small upset and improved their early record to over the .500 mark.
