Courtland Sutton says he’s being ‘good soldier’ after missing bulk of three practices
"Just trying to make sure the body stays as fresh as possible, as long as possible," Courtland Sutton said of his long absence at Broncos camp this week

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton hasn’t done much at training camp this week.
According to Sutton and head coach Sean Payton, this is all part of a larger plan. Sutton had days off on Tuesday and Wednesday, then on Thursday he dressed but didn’t take team reps.
Payton said Sutton is not dealing with an injury and this is “rest” and “our protocol.”
Then Sutton himself went to the podium and expanded extensively about what’s going on right now.
“Last year, kind of got ran into the ground going into the end part of the season. And with us ultimately getting to where we want to get to, playing in February, it’s a long season ahead of us,” Sutton said.
February is of course when the Super Bowl is played. It’s an obvious goal for the Broncos coming off a 14-3 season and falling one step short by losing in the AFC Title Game.
“Just trying to make sure the body stays as fresh as possible, as long as possible. I know everybody gets all anxious and excited about ball is back.” Courtland Sutton said. “Different narratives get thrown out, this and that, but like I said I try to be a good soldier. Whether it’s something I want to do or not… at the end of the day I’m doing what’s best for the team and put myself into position to have a fresh body going into the long part of the season.”
Sutton was asked if he’s healthy and he said “indubitably,” which means without any doubt.
A reporter then brought up “load management,” for Sutton, a comparison he wasn’t a huge fan of.
“I feel like load management is that basketball term. That’s what they talk about with basketball… I wouldn’t say that. I think it’s just being a good teammate,” Courtland Sutton said. “Being a good player in terms of player, coach relationship… if they come to me and say that’s what they need from me.”
Clearly the Broncos are trying to play it smart with Sutton, who added he “loves to work.” Hopefully, there is nothing to see here.
But three days in a row of missing the bulk of practice will raise some eyebrows. However if Courtland Sutton is out there on Friday and Saturday this will become a moot point.
